October 11, 2012 – The Dallas Arts District announces today details of the signature event of the District’s Art in October month-long celebration – GLIMPSE 2012; a night of light, video, sound, interactive installations and free public art on October 19, 2012, 7pm to 12 am. GLIMPSE 2012 is a one night, unique opportunity for the art community to preview Aurora 2013, featuring 10 of the 100+ artists expected to participate in next year’s event.
The AURORA Project showcases site-specific artinstallations of light, sound, performance, and video, interplaying with the buildings, streets and surfaces of the Dallas Arts District for an unforgettable one-night event. The result is a transformation of 68 acres/19 city blocks of downtown Dallas that energizes and excites the city through new artistic innovations.
“After last year’s success, not to mention hard work, we decided that we would move in the direction of a biennial. We want to keep the vision fresh, while simultaneously working on our fundraising prospects to encourage growth.” said co-creator Shane Pennington. “We want time to court several international artists to be a part of this very unique experience.”
For the evening of October 19, 2012, Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District will be closed to traffic between Routh and Jack Evans to become a pedestrian walk-way of art and food trucks. Art installations will also be located on the grounds of the Dallas City Performance Hall, the AT & T Performing Arts Center’s Winspear Opera House and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Attendees will be able to enter the event from any point in the District and chart their own path as they wander, explore and experience the art andevents throughout the district
Glimpse is a preview for those years in-between the larger Aurora years.

ALSO on Oct. 19th, the Wyly Theatre, Dallas Theater Center presents their Pay-What-You-Can performance of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents Divine Dvorakat theMeyerson Symphony Center. The activity continues at the other end of Flora St. with Crow Collection After Dark (FREE), ‘til Midnight at the Nasher (FREE) and Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art (general admission), each open until midnight. There will also be performances, tours, food trucks, a Pinterest Costume Contest and other activities.

About Art in October
Art in October features more than 170 events, many free or at a reduced price, during the month of October on Flora Street in Downtown Dallas. The month-long Art celebration of the Dallas Arts Districtspotlights the district’s organizations, venues, exhibitions and programs with a variety of events while raising the bar from last year’s successes. Art in October 2012 is a diverse mix of stunning district-wide exhibitions and community-oriented elements designed to entertain and engage audiences of all ages.
October is a significant time for the Dallas Arts District; it is the anniversary of the opening of the AT & T PerformingArts Center and the Nasher Sculpture Center, it is the start of the season for organizations like The Dallas Opera and new exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art are frequently previewed during the month. This year will mark the grand opening of Klyde Warren Park. October is also National Arts and Humanities Month, providing a national as well as a regional cause for celebration.
