Changing Perspectives Block Party is free and open to the public. RSVP to let us know you are coming and arrive early to guarantee your spot!

This is a limited capacity event. Entry to the event will be on a first come, first serve basis. Once capacity is reached, entry will be closed. As attendees leave or exit the venue, additional entry will be permitted until capacity is reached. RSVP’s are optional and are not required to attend. RSVP’s do not guarantee entry or reserve space for you/your party. Ensure you are able to enter the venue by arriving early!

What is the capacity limit? 508

What time will the venue open for entry? Doors open at 6:00 PM

How early should I get there? Arrive as early as you would like! Enjoy the beautiful Winspear campus while you wait for doors to open.

Do I need a ticket to attend? No. This is a free, public event. Tickets not required.

Do I need to RSVP to attend? No. RSVP’s are optional and are not required to attend the event.

Are walk ups welcome? Absolutely! Entry will be permitted to walk ups until capacity is reached. RSVPs are not required.

I RSVP’d to the event. Is my spot reserved? No. Entry to the event will be on a first come, first serve basis. When capacity is reached, doors will close and entry will not be permitted, regardless of a RSVP.

I got a confirmation email with a ticket QR code. Am I guaranteed entry? No. The confirmation email and ticket QR code sent after RSVP’ing on the web does not reserve your spot or guarantee entry. This is sent to confirm your RSVP only. Entry will be permitted until capacity is reached.  

I only plan to attend the second program at 8:45. How do I guarantee entry with capacity limits? Arrive early to ensure that space is available. Once capacity is reached, entry will not be permitted.

ABOUT:

Dallas Arts District is welcoming families back to live, in-person performances by reimagining its signature event, Changing Perspectives Block Party, A Celebration of Dallas Artists. The district’s traditional block party will become a socially-distanced night of exciting performances by ten Dallas arts companies.

“We know that everyone is eager to experience live dance and music performances,” said Lily Weiss, executive director of the Dallas Arts District. “And this is a safe way for families to do this – under the stars in the fresh air – it’s perfect!”

The performances, featuring a diverse range of artists and art forms, will take place at the beautiful outdoor venue, Annette Strauss Square in the heart of downtown at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

“B. MOORE DANCE is beyond thrilled to return to the Dallas Arts District and share the stage with our fellow local artists at the beautiful Annette Strauss Square,” said Bridget L. Moore, founder and artistic director of B. MOORE DANCE. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate and honor the hard work and sacrifices everyone has made for the safety and love of the ARTS.”

“Music is life and we are blessed to share our gifts,” said artist Len Barnett with Percussion Things, one of the ten companies performing.

“Artistic creation plays a vital role in bringing communities together to process collective grief and to find renewed joy,” stated Mara Richards Bim. “Cry Havoc Theater Company is excited to be a part of this event this year to launch, what we hope, is the first step on our journey home to live, performing arts in Dallas.”

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Percussion Things: Percussion Things is a percussion driven jazz band and more.  The incomparable Mr. Len Barnett performs his own unique style of percussion driven jazz and has shared the stage with many well-known performers, including Kirk Franklin, Cab Calloway, Kirk Whalum, Joe McBride, Joe Vincelli, and a host of others.  Percussion Things is part of the Community Artist Program with the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.

Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico: The Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico is an educational performing dance company, reaching 50,000 children annually through the historical art form of Ballet Folklorico. The company, founded in 1975 by the first Hispanic councilperson Anita Martinez, celebrates the rich heritage of Mexico and continues to be a vibrant part of the North Texas dance community.  Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico is part of the Community Artist Program with the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, and a resident company of AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Cry Havoc: Cry Havoc creates art that amplifies the voices of young people and serves as a conduit for community dialogue. The company is passionate about providing young people with access to pre-professional training under the direction of professional artists. They are uncompromising in their belief that young people have the intellectual appetite and emotional maturity to tackle complex, provocative material, and are dedicated to providing serious (and seriously talented) young people the opportunity to create artistically viable theater, regardless of their financial means.

Texas Ballet Theater: Since their founding in 1961, Texas Ballet Theater has evolved from a small regional ballet company to the internationally recognized organization it is today. It’s through the talent and hard work of TBT’s team and the support of their audiences that they consistently attract the finest dancers and choreographers to North Texas. Texas Ballet Theater is the only arts organization to serve as resident company for Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth and the Winspear Opera House on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Campus in Dallas. Their internationally recognized company is built on a rich history and boasts a repertoire that is creative, expressive and collaborative.

B. MOORE DANCE: B. MOORE DANCE, founded in 2018, is a Dallas-based contemporary modern dance company. The diverse collective of performing artists are under the artistic direction of Dallas native, Bridget L. Moore. Throughout her illustrious career, Moore sought opportunities to give voice to her passion for teaching and choreographing. She has received international accolades and awards for her outstanding work. As the Founder and Artistic Director of B. MOORE DANCE, Moore has created a visionary plan of action that is exemplary of her commitment to the dance continuum. B. MOORE DANCE strives to empower and transcend generations through the art of dance by cultivating the arts through leadership, education and performances.

Bandan Koro African Drum & Dance Ensemble:  Bandan Koro African Drum & Dance Ensemble was formed in Winter 2009 in an effort to provide quality dance and drum classes, programs, performances, and educational & cultural activities. The Company shares experiences associated with African culture and history through the medium of dance, music, and specialized presentations, to foster a greater awareness, understanding, appreciation, and respect for African and African Diaspora related music, dance, and culture.  Bandan Koro African Drum & Dance Ensemble is part of the Community Artist Program with the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.

Bruce Wood Dance: Bruce Wood Dance has garnered many accolades, including performing on the 2020 American Dance Platform at The Joyce Theater in New York; honored as Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2019, 2017, 2014, and 2013; Best of Dallas Voice 2014–2018; and TheaterJones.com’s Top Ten list since 2011. TheaterJones.com dance critic Cheryl Callon said, “Bruce Wood Dance has long been one of the region’s finest dance companies; now the country can rightfully embrace it as an American treasure.” Fortified by Bruce Wood®’s aesthetic, Bruce Wood Dance produces and maintains his repertoire, commissions new work by resident choreographers and guest dance–makers and contributes to the quality of life in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, and across the nation.

The Dallas Opera: The Dallas Opera is a world-class performing arts organization producing outstanding mainstage and chamber opera repertoire; attracting national and international attention; committed to extensive community outreach and education; and managed to the highest possible standards of artistic excellence, accountability, efficiency and financial sustainability.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre:  Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, Dallas Black Dance Theatre bridges cultures and reaches diverse communities through contemporary modern dance and education programs. The company performs locally and internationally, serving over 3 million arts patrons with an inimitable multi-ethnic troupe of dancers that never fails to impress. DBDT is a resident company of AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Dezi 5: Dezi 5 is an award winning, recording artist and multi-faceted entertainer.  He is a superstar with incredible showmanship and a persona larger than life. His performances earned him a Dallas Observer Music Award as “Best Live Act” (voted by the city). He is currently working on his first full length album; in the meantime, he will be introducing “Crucifixion on the Dance Floor” to the Big Apple.
